A vibrant gathering place meeting historical, cultural and educational needs, the Galt engages and educates its communities in the human history of southwestern Alberta by preserving and sharing collections, stories and memories that define collective identity and guide the future. Formerly the Trianon Ballroom (1930s-1960s), the gallery is an informal mix between a gallery and an architectural office. Its open space and philosophy allows for creative community responses. Exhibitions range from nationally-renowned artists to aspiring students. A second exhibition space, Le Petit Trianon is now open downstairs.
The Alberta Foundation for the Arts invites eligible artists resident in Alberta to submit artworks for consideration for purchase to its Art Acquisition before Application project deadline: April 30, 2012. The Lethbridge Allied Arts Council administers two galleries in the Bowman Arts Centre and one at the Yates Memorial Theatre. They welcome submissions from established artists, beginning artists looking for initial exhibition experience, and graduating / recently graduated art students who are Alberta residents. Mon to Fri 9 am - 9 pm, Sat 10 am - 4 pm.
For more than ten years the gallery has presented a wide variety of Canadian contemporary landscape and wildlife art in all media, including pieces by owner and professional artist, Jerry Arnold, who works from his studio in the gallery. Both original works and limited edition prints and serigraphs, bronze and Inuit stone sculpture, and glass art. Custom framing service. Mon to Sat 9 am - 5 pm.
One of Canada's foremost public galleries, SAAG fosters the work of contemporary visual artists who push the boundaries of their medium. Regularly changing exhibitions are featured in three distinct gallery spaces. Learning programs, film screenings and special events further contribute to local culture. Stuart Mueller, a former U of Lethbridge Fine Arts professor, opened this small gallery at the front of his full-service photographic studio located in a nearly-century-old building in downtown Lethbridge. Solo shows change every four to six weeks and cover a wide range of fine art and craft from within the local community and beyond. Tues to Sat 10 am - 6 pm.
This artist-run centre provides studio and exhibitions space to four local artists. Traditional and contemporary works by Tony Partridge, Ian Randell and Wendy Desjardins. This 1922 original space is situated in the downtown core just a few doors from the Southern Alberta Art Gallery. Part of a larger co-operative, the Potemkin Collective. Tues to Sat 1 pm - 4:30 pm.
'Funky, weird and fascinating' describes this studio and exhibit space in the historical Old No. 1 Fire Hall basement. Parts of some studios include jail cells dating to the late 1890s. The distinctive styles of the six artists comprise a variety of work from drip paintings, to multi-media with resins, to paintings on rusty tin. Part of The Potemkin Collective.
